On Friday, May 27 and Saturday, May 28, 2011 from 9:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., Victoria School of the Arts will host a festival to honour the school's 100th birthday, recognize 25 years of arts programming and professional quality performances and to celebrate the opening of the newly renovated school.
To kick-off the 100th year, the school will be holding a cake cutting ceremony to commemorate the occasion for staff, students and parents on Friday, May 27 from 11:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Dignitaries from Edmonton Public Schools, the city and the province will be on hand to take part in this special event.
The festival will showcase instrumental and choral music, guitar, dance, drama, improvisation, spoken art, visual art and new media exhibitions and performances from students in Kindergarten to Grade 12. The Victoria School courtyard main stage will come to life as independent student acts and school groups perform.
Other features include Greenwoods book fair, creative writing readings, screenings of student films, and workshops and demonstrations in art forms such a pottery, ice sculpting and soapstone.
On Friday evening, special guest William Eddins, Music Director of the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, will conduct Victoria School's choirs and band in a musical retrospective of Victoria School's 25 Years of the Arts.
The Saturday evening "Indi-Stage" will include a wide variety of auditioned song, dance and drama performances by Victoria School students.
