From March 21 until April 17, Lillian Osborne School will be home to the exhibit Germany for Beginners.
Using the 26 letters of the alphabet, the exhibition presents today's Germany. Using an array of amusing and more serious and interactive components, viewers gain insight into the German way of life and German identity. Oversized sculptures of the letters engage visitors and share information about Germany's unique history, politics and culture.
The exhibit is made available to students and the public through a partnership among Edmonton Public Schools and agencies of the Federal Republic of Germany, including the Goethe-Institut Toronto, the Central Agency for German Schools Abroad. One of the agreements in the partnership is the provision of German language and cultural events. This is done through Edmonton Public Schools' Innovation in Second Language Education. Goethe-Institut Toronto has also donated extensive German resources to Edmonton Public Schools, provided teacher workshops and sponsored various artist visits and cultural exhibits, including Germany for Beginners.
The exhibit is on a world tour, with Edmonton and Vancouver being its only Canadian stops.
