On January 24, students from Lawton and Highlands Schools are headed to Quebec City for a week long adventure. This incredible opportunity is made possible by an exchange program, the Society for Education Visits and Exchanges in Canada (SEVEC), which covers the student's travel costs.
Lawton and Highlands, both junior highs, are twinned with a high school in Quebec City, and the students will be billeted with host families. The exchange will be reciprocated in April when the Quebec City students come to Edmonton.
While in Quebec City, the 24 students will be connecting with their peers, participating in the Winter Carnival, and touring the ice hotel and sugar shack. Students will also be visiting with some seniors, showing them postcards of Edmonton and talking about the city where they live.
For these students, this is a chance of a lifetime which they may never have had if it were not for this innovative exchange program. In fact, for many, this will be their first time on an airplane and traveling out of the province.
