Schools Join Forces with Local Charity for 'The Helping Hampers Project'

Through the combined efforts of dozens of Edmonton Public Schools and GEOMEER, a local charity, 38 Edmonton families in need will be provided with large scale hampers to assist them during the holiday season and beyond. The hamper items were collected by six high schools (Harry Ainlay, J. Percy Page, Lillian Osborne M.E. LaZerte, Vimy Ridge Academy and W.P. Wagner) and include food, gifts, toiletries, and cleaning supplies, totaling approximately $2000 per hamper. Each high school is partnered with their local elementary and junior high schools and each recipient family has children who attend one of these schools.

The media are invited to Harry Ainlay School (4350 111 Street) on Thursday, December 9 at 4 p.m. to see the students wrapping and preparing these giant sized hampers.

Formed in 2009, GEOMEER is an Edmonton-based charity that provides needy families with relief hampers designed to lower or eliminate everyday costs for the recipients. The charity was founded by three university students and their former Leadership teacher advisor who wanted to provide a direct link for Edmonton youth to improve their schools and community. GEOMEER is their inspiration put into action. For more on GEOMEER, visit their website www.geomeer.ca.
