Last evening, after one and a half hours of hearing comments from the public followed by extensive Board discussion, the Board of Trustees voted (7-2) to pass a motion on a two year moratorium on school closures.
Chair Colburn described the motion as "a sign that this Board is committed to finding alternatives to school closures". The Chair also noted that "as a Board, we are committed to responding to our communities and working with the city and province to explore different solutions in support of viable schools".
In addition to this motion, several other highlights were also brought forward to the Board meeting including the Three Year Education Plan and Annual Education Results Report and the Student, Staff, and Community Satisfaction Survey Results. These items included key achievements Edmonton Public Schools have made in supporting students.
The full agenda and reports presented from last evening's Board meeting are available under the Board of Trustees section of www.epsb.ca. In addition, an archived copy of the Board meeting webcast is available at www.livestream.com/edmontonpublicschools.
