On November 9 from 8:15 to 9:30 a.m., L.Y. Cairns School is hosting their annual Ambassador Breakfast. Through the Ambassador program, businesses and community organizations are provided the opportunity to become supporters of public education by offering students the chance to pursue work experience and work placement opportunities. The Honourable Thomas Lukaszuk, Minister of Employment and Immigration, will give the keynote address at the breakfast.
The goal at L.Y. Cairns School is to prepare its students, who have mild cognitive disabilities, for successful futures. Their focus is to help their Grade 7 to 12 students develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes to live constructive and meaningful lives. The school has an individual program plan for each student, which identifies their goals, strengths and areas for growth.
L.Y. Cairns School has a long tradition of working with a wide range of community partners to help youth realize their potential. For students unable to graduate with an Alberta High School Diploma, L.Y. Cairns School and the Conference Board of Canada have partnered to implement the Employability Skills Achievement Certificate. This certificate is awarded to students who work independently and have demonstrated they have employability skills required for entry into the workplace.
