Good Things Are Happening
On September 9, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., students and staff from Lillian Osborne High School will host the biggest Speak Out Forum ever held in the province. The forum will give students the opportunity to share their ideas and concerns with their school staff and the Ministry of Education using an interactive DVD Toolkit designed to foster student engagement.
"We are committed to hearing not just a few students' voices, but all 700 student voices at our school," says Janet Hancock, Lillian Osborne School Principal. "It's an incredible opportunity to hear directly from our students on how we can serve them better. My staff and I are eager to work together with our students to improve how education looks and feels for all of us across the province."
Speak Out - the Alberta Student Engagement Initiative was launched by the Government of Alberta in November 2008. This initiative encourages Alberta's youth, from 14 to 19 years, to provide their perspectives on the education system. Speak Out recognizes that students are the experts when it comes to their education. They know what's working, what's not and more importantly, what can be done about it.
