Official Opening of Elizabeth Finch School

The official opening of Elizabeth Finch School will take place on Wednesday, September 8 at 7 p.m. (13815 - 160 Avenue NW). Attending the ceremony will be Ray Danyluk, Minister of Infrastructure; Janice Sarich, Parliamentary Assistant for Education and MLA for Edmonton-Decore; Kim Krushell, City Councillor; Don Fleming, Board Chair; Vice-Chair Catherine Ripley; Trustees Bev Esslinger, Sue Huff and George Rice from the Edmonton Public School Board; and Edgar Schmidt, Superintendent of Schools. The one hour ceremony will conclude with an official ribbon cutting ceremony, refreshments and tours of the school.

"The Board is pleased that our strong advocacy for new schools has paid off and that now, through our combined efforts with the Provincial Government, this important new community resource has been provided to serve the students and the residents of Northwest Edmonton," says Chair Fleming.

Elizabeth Finch is an ASAP school - owned, administered and operated by Edmonton Public Schools. The school has been built to achieve LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Silver certification, an independent rating system used to measure environmental efficiency. LEED Silver buildings are more energy-efficient, cost less to operate, and provide a healthier work environment through improved air quality and use of natural light.

Elizabeth Finch School is named after Elizabeth (Betty) Jean Finch (1930 - 2002), an exemplary educator and advocate. Betty Finch made a profound difference in the lives of staff and students of Edmonton Public Schools and to the educational community, particularly in the area of learning disabilities.
