What: | BRANDER GARDENS CLASS MAKES CHANGE FOR HAITI Fifteen Grade 1 students from Brander Gardens School will present $704 to the Canadian Red Cross in support of the Haiti Relief Effort. The money was collected through a bottle drive that began in January and ended in May. |
When: | Friday, June 11 from 1 - 2 p.m. |
Where: | The Edmonton office of the Canadian Red Cross, 9931 106 Street |
Why: | The class was inspired to help the people in Haiti after seeing and hearing about the earthquake's devastation to the Haitian people. This fundraiser was also a natural evolution of their social studies curriculum, which included discussions and lessons about community, co-operation, responsibility and decision-making. It ultimately taught the students the importance of helping others and giving back to the community. |
