GORDON AND NIGELLA WOULD BE PROUD; DISTRICT CULINARY ARTS STUDENTS ARE 'TOP CHEFS' IN THE CITY!

The future of Jasper Place School students JayCee Ward and Neesa Loewen (pictured) looks promising as the two placed first and second, respectively, in Culinary Arts at the Edmonton Skills Canada Competition.

The two burgeoning chefs are now training for the provincial competition, a two-day event taking place May 12 - 13 at the Edmonton Expo Centre at Northlands. The event, which is open to the public, features 650 students taking part in 42 trade and technology competitions - from culinary arts to carpentry, and computer animation to landscape gardening.

For the high school culinary arts competition, the students had to prepare and present a three-course meal for two and a platter of 3 courses for 2 people. The three-course meal included pork loin with prunes, roesti potato, asparagus and a dessert crepe. The gold medalists of the provincial competition will represent the province later this year at the Canadian Skills Competition in Waterloo, Ontario. Top performers will become part of Team Canada and compete in WorldSkills London 2011.

Congratulations JayCee and Neesa!
