2010 EXCELLENCE IN TEACHING AWARD NOMINEES

Congratulations to the 30 district teachers and five principals who are among the 136 semi-finalists of the 2010 Excellence in Teaching Awards announced by Alberta Education. The semi-finalists were selected from 338 eligible nominations and can access up to $1,500 for professional development. In addition, all semi-finalists in Northern Alberta will attend a regional celebration on April 20 at the Fairmont Hotel MacDonald. Trustees will also honour all semi-finalists at a Board event on April 29; however, the province will announce the 23 award recipients in a release on May 20.

From the 136 semi-finalists, 20 teachers will receive a provincial Excellence in Teaching Award and will be able to access up to $4,000 for professional development. The three recipients of the SMARTer Kids Foundation Innovative Use of Technology Award will receive a comprehensive technology package, which includes a SMART board. Alberta Education will honour the 2010 award recipients at a dinner and ceremony in Calgary on May 29.
