Good Things Are Happening
STUDENTS TALK GREEN

On January 29 from 9:30 to 3:00 p.m., the M.E. LaZerte Green Team, together with Edmonton Public Schools' EnviroMatters, will host the Student Environmental Symposium at the Centre for Education's conference centre (One Kingsway).

Seventy high school students and staff will attend the daylong event, which will feature speakers, round table discussions and breakout sessions based on the theme, Students for Sustainable Schools. The symposium will also feature Stony Plain-area writers Craig and Layla Baird, the authors of the Our Green Year blog. (http://ourgreenyear.blogspot.com).

The symposium, a first-time effort, was organized by students to learn more about what environmental initiatives are happening in the district and to find out what they can do to help reduce their school's environmental footprint. Students will also have an opportunity to learn about the resources available to their environmental groups.

Will Deys with EnviroMatters says, "If we are going to have committed and effective citizens in the future, we have to give students many opportunities to take action now. We want to inspire these young people to take a larger role towards making a difference in their schools, community and the world."

Media are welcome to attend.
