Good Things Are Happening
JESSIE'S WISH COMES TRUE THANKS TO STUDENTS AT ALBERTA SCHOOL FOR THE DEAF AND TEVIE MILLER HERITAGE SCHOOL PROGRAM
On Friday, April 25 at 10:30 a.m., students at Alberta School for the Deaf and the Tevie Miller Heritage School Program will hold an assembly to celebrate making Jessie McQuitty's wish come true. As part of the assembly, students will present a cheque for $1,000 to Dianne Tuterra, Child Life Team Leader at the Stollery Children's Hospital. A special presentation will also be made to Joan Bechtel, McQuitty's mother.
The funds were raised in memory of McQuitty who died from Cystic Fibrosis in May 2007 at the age of 24. While attending Jessie's funeral, teacher Trish Fermaniuk received a list of her wishes. "I knew Jessie's wish of donating books to the Stollery Children's Hospital was something our students could accomplish," says Fermaniuk.
Students from both schools raised a total of $2,000 in support of Jessie's wish: $1,100 came directly from student fundraising, while $900 was donated by McQuitty's aunt and uncle, Angela and David Bechtel.
