Good Things Are Happening
ABORIGINAL HISTORY QUIZ AWARDS CEREMONY AT PRINCE CHARLES

The sixth annual Aboriginal History Quiz wraps up in the gymnasium at Prince Charles School at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, April 18, 2008. Over the course of this week, 145 students in Grades 3 to 6 competed against one another and tested their knowledge of Aboriginal literature, arts and crafts, Inuit people, historical Aboriginal Canadians and Métis people. The questions are aligned with the social studies curriculum and teachers use it as a component of their teaching.

The quiz follows a format similar to Jeopardy and students must buzz in when they have the answer. Winners in each category are determined through two elimination rounds followed by a final round. All quiz participants receive a book with Aboriginal content and a certificate of participation. Other prizes are awarded to the highest place winners and students with the highest overall score. Students winning the final round will have their names engraved on a plaque displayed prominently in the school.

The awards ceremonies will feature a demonstration of the quiz and performances from the Awasisak Nikamowak Choir, the Prince Charles Guitar and Fiddle Group and the Prince Charles Jiggers.

Greetings will be delivered by Edmonton Public Schools' Trustee Sue Huff, Mayor Stephen Mandel, and the Honourable Gene Zwozdesky, Minister of Aboriginal Relations.
