CLASSES TO RESUME AT DELWOOD SCHOOL ON MARCH 3
It's business as usual at Delwood School on March 3. Staff and students will be returning to the school for the first time since a fire caused significant damage on November 30. The entire school was relocated to Newton School on December 4 for the duration of the restoration.
As part of fire restoration, all of Delwood School has been either cleaned or, where necessary, repainted. The rooms damaged by the fire have been totally restored with new flooring, fixtures and paint. The ceilings in the hallways have been replaced with new drywall and light fixtures. All floors and carpets have been cleaned, and the gymnasium floor has been totally replaced. The gym has also been repainted.
"We are proud of the excellent work our District staff and contractors have done in restoring Delwood School," says John Nicoll, Managing Director of Facilities.
The last day for students at Newton School is February 26 and teachers will be setting up their classrooms at Delwood School on February 27. The daycare will resume operations at Delwood School on March 3.
Damage to the school is estimated to be over $1.5 million and is covered by District insurance. The fire was arson and remains under investigation.
