Good Things Are Happening
QUEEN ELIZABETH SCHOOL HOSTS VIRTUAL TOWN HALL MEETING
On Thursday, January 17, from 9 to 11 a.m., approximately 100 students from across northern Alberta, the University of Alberta, the Environmental Research and Studies Centre and The Centre for Global Education will connect via video-conference. The four groups will take part in the first virtual town hall meeting in Alberta to discuss the impact of human behaviour on the environment and climate change.
The event is the final wrap up of the Alberta Virtual Classroom, which was created by Queen Elizabeth School. The Virtual Classroom joins six schools, from Calgary to Lloydminster, six times a year to cover various items in the curriculum. The session is offered in collaboration with: the Environmental Research and Studies Centre from the University of Alberta; Dr. Andrew Bush, professor, Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, University of Alberta; and The Centre for Global Education.
For the past two weeks, the six schools along with the University of Alberta and the two centres, have connected virtually to investigate and identify the human actions that affect biomes, which have a potential to change climate. Participants also critically examined the evidence that human actions play a role in climate change. A report on the findings will be published by the students, the University of Alberta and both centres.
