GROUNDBREAKING FOR LILLIAN OSBORNE HIGH SCHOOL
The official construction launch of Edmonton Public Schools' new high school in southwest Edmonton took place today at 2:30 p.m. at 15204 - 23 Ave. On hand for a brief commencement ceremony were the the Honourable Dave Hancock, Minister of Health and Wellness; City Councillor Mike Nickel; Edmonton Public School Board Chair Bev Esslinger, Vice-Chair George Nicholson and Trustees Svend Hansen, Don Fleming, Wendy Keiver and Don Williams.
The school is named after Lillian Mary Osborne (1869 - 1929), the school district's first female teacher and one of Alberta's pioneering educators. It will help to provide much needed space and educational opportunities for 1,000 students in the city's southwest communities and will earn a silver level in LEED environmental certification.
