Nellie McClung student to attend Imperial Oil Seminar in Computer Science for Young Women

Carly Clarke, a Grade 9 student from Bannerman School's Nellie McClung Program, will represent Edmonton Public Schools at the 2007 Imperial Oil Seminar in Computer Science for Young Women. This one week, all expenses paid seminar is being held at the University of Waterloo and is designed to spark interest in computer science among young women. Clarke is one of 90 students from across Canada who has been selected to participate.

The seminar includes lectures, labs and hands-on activities in Computer Science. Clarke will have the opportunity to explore a wide-range of computer science applications and interact with faculty, graduate and undergraduate students. During the seminar, all students are housed on-campus and chaperoned by a number of female graduate students who will share their campus experiences.

Clarke was nominated by teacher Ron Lynn because of her continued hard work and excellence in mathematics.

The Nellie McClung Program provides junior high programming for girls while emphasizing leadership, initiative, self-reliance and independence, as well as the chance to study in a single gender educational setting.
