Bob Dean Memorial

Bob DeanFormer teacher, principal and Edmonton Public Schools’ Trustee Bob Dean passed away on Thursday, May 10, 2007. In his over 30 years with the district, Mr. Dean taught junior and senior high school, served as principal at both Victoria and M.E. LaZerte schools and coached football and volleyball. In 1993, M. E. LaZerte School donated the Bob Dean Coach of the Year Award, which recognizes a senior high coach who has made a significant contribution to football. After retiring, Mr. Dean served one term on the Board of Trustees from 2001 to 2004.

During his career, Mr. Dean was committed to ensuring all students had a chance for a successful life. He worked to ensure programs were available for those students who were not planning to pursue post-secondary education. Mr. Dean strongly believed schools should be a safe environment for students and implemented the district’s first conflict management program. He was also instrumental in working with the Edmonton Police Service to form the first school resource officer program, which continues in schools today.

The Board extends sincere sympathies to Mr. Dean’s family and friends on behalf of the district.

A memorial service for Bob Dean will be held Friday, May 18 at 2 p.m. at Robertson-Wesley United Church, 10209 - 123 Street.
