Good Things Are Happening
Internationally acclaimed jazz musician coming to Edmonton Public Schools
Three district high schools have partnered to bring one of the world's finest jazz trombonists to town to conduct workshops for their music students. From April 23 to 25, Steve Turre, a regular member of the Saturday Night Live Band, will be conducting workshops with the jazz band students at Strathcona School, Ross Sheppard School and Victoria School of Performing and Visual Arts.
On April 25 at 7 p.m., Mr. Turre will be featured along with the school's top jazz bands at a Tri-School Jazz Concert starting at 7 p.m. in Eva O. Howard Theatre in Victoria School. Tickets are available for the concert at a cost of $15.
In addition to playing with the Saturday Night Live Band, Mr. Turre has played with an incredible array of gifted artists such as Ray Charles, Woody Shaw, Dizzy Gillespie, Herbie Hancock, J.J. Johnson and Van Morrison. He is also recognized as an accomplished seashellist.
St. John's Music is donating professional instruments for the students to use during the workshops.
