Students return to Victoria School
Elementary students resumed classes at Victoria School of Performing and Visual Arts this morning, while central administrative staff and school staff finalized arrangements for the junior and senior high school students, who will return to class tomorrow.
Junior and senior high students will gather at Victoria School at their regular start times on Thursday, April 12. Due to the fire, the main doors will not be open; however, other doors will be open, including the 101 Street and 108 Avenue entrances at the southeast corner of the school and the Kingsway entrance on the north side of the school. Staff will be at the entrances to assist students as needed.
Signs will also be posted on the entrance doors directing senior high students to their temporary learning spaces at Victoria School and the Centre for Education, which is attached to Victoria School. The signs will also direct junior high students to gather at the Eva O. Howard Theatre, where they will have an assembly before being transported to Wellington School. Junior high students will be asked to bring bag lunches with them, as there is no cafeteria available at Wellington School. The City of Edmonton, which is leasing the building from the school district, has agreed to sub-lease a portion of the facility to house the junior high students until Friday, April 20. It is anticipated that students will be able to return to their classrooms at Victoria School on Monday, April 23.
At the end of the day, junior high students will be transported back to Victoria School for their regular dismissal time. Yellow busses and Edmonton Transit Service (ETS) busses will continue to operate as normal.
The district is working on a plan to provide students with access to their lockers to retrieve their books and personal items next week.
