Good Things Are Happening
Children Celebrating Ukrainian Orthodox Easter Traditions

On Thursday, April 12, students of the Ukrainian International Bilingual Program at Delwood School will be experiencing the traditions of Easter Basket Blessing at Delwood Hall, 7515 Delwood Road beginning at 10:35 a.m.

Children from Kindergarten to Grade 6 have been working hard preparing a program filled with Easter traditions, song and dance. After the program, children will witness the blessing of their Easter baskets filled with traditional Ukrainian food. The children are excited to be sharing this experience with their families. The Delwood Ukrainian Bilingual Parents Association is organizing this event and has extended invitations to the Superintendent of EPS, school trustees from north Edmonton wards, city councillors from Ward 2 & 3, Mayor Stephen Mandel, MLA's representing the north Edmonton area, as well as the Premier of Alberta, Honourable Ed Stelmach and Members of Parliament, John Williams and Peter Goldring to join in our celebration. Confirmed attendance will be Premier Stelmach.

Preparation for this special event started weeks earlier as the children learned the art of Easter egg writing called Pysanky and making special Ukrainian Easter bread called Paska. The teachers, as well as parent volunteers, have put great effort into teaching the children the significance of the food and the traditions they will experience.
