Results of special Board meeting to consider recommended closures

Schools closing
At tonight's public Board meeting, the Board of Trustees voted to close High Park School and Newton School, along with the regular program at Mount Pleasant School and the regular program at Mill Creek School. The closures will take place at the end of the current school year.

The Board voted as follows:

  • by a majority vote (5 to 4), the Trustees supported the recommendation to close High Park School;
  • by a majority vote (6 to 3), the Trustees supported the recommendation to close Newton School;
  • by a majority vote (9 to 0), the Trustees supported the recommendation to close the regular program at Mill Creek School; and
  • by a majority vote (9 to 0), the Trustees supported the recommendation to close the regular program at Mount Pleasant School.

Schools not closing
The Board of Trustees also voted not to close the Mill Creek School building. What this means is that the Spanish Bilingual program will continue to be offered at Mill Creek School.

The Board voted as follows:

  • by a majority vote (8 to 1), the Trustees did not support the recommendation to close Mill Creek School.

A letter to parents of the students attending the four schools, informing them of the outcome of the vote, will be sent home tomorrow.
