District teacher receives 2006 National Excellence Award for Teaching
Grant Wilkie, a teacher at Greenfield School, has received a 2006 National Excellence Award for Teachers (NEAT) from the Heritage Educational Foundation. The award acknowledges individual teachers who have introduced innovative methods of teaching and learning to the classroom.
Grant was recognized for his dedication, understanding, inspiration and generosity. He takes every opportunity to teach his students more than what's expected and uses innovative teaching techniques to challenge them. He also serves as a mentor for student teachers at the school.
The NEAT Awards give school communities the opportunity to honour talented, inspiring and dedicated teachers who are making significant contributions to education and the teaching profession.
Award recipients are selected from each of the five regions: British Columbia and Yukon; the Prairies; Northwest Territories and Nunavut; Ontario; Quebec and Atlantic Canada. The five recipients each receive a $5,000 award.
