Montrose students get schooled in Samba
Montrose Schools is hosting the Calgary School of Samba as part of their Artist in Residence program. Throughout the week, the Calgary School of Samba is working with every student on Brazilian dance, drumming and costumes. The students are loving it and learning so much about a different culture, and for some, one that is familiar to them. The Samba, which originated in Brazil, is danced as a festival dance during the street festivals and celebrations.
On Friday, December 15 at 1 p.m. the students, along with the Calgary School of Samba, will share what they have learned through a performance.
This Artist in Residency project was made possible by the school's Parent Advisory Council and the Arts Foundation. The Alberta Foundation for the Arts (AFA) makes it possible for schools to bring professional Alberta artists into their classrooms for residency programs ranging from one to thirty days in length.
