What: Edmonton Public Schools hosts Second Languages Matter!
Four hundred educators will take part in Edmonton Public Schools' Second Languages Matter! Best Practices Day. This full-day conference is the largest gathering of second language educators in the province with 40 per cent of attendees coming from outside Edmonton Public Schools. Participants come from across Alberta, BC and the Yukon and Northwest Territories.

At 8:45 a.m., Dr. Samantha Nutt will deliver the keynote address, which will focus on the importance of second languages in today's global society. Dr. Nutt is the Founder and Director of War Child Canada and widely recognized for her humanitarian work. A bilingual Canadian, Dr. Nutt is a recipient of numerous awards and honours from the Globe and Mail, La Presse, Macleans, Time Magazine, CBC and CTV news, among many others.

From 10:40 to 11:00 a.m., Dr. Nutt will be available to answer questions from the media on the role second language education can play in creating a better world.

The day offers over 40 breakout sessions of interest to second language educators and administrators of all languages, programs and levels taught in Alberta.
