KARSH MEETS KIDS

After attending a fieldtrip at the Art Gallery of Alberta, the Grade 1 students at Virginia Park Arts Core School were inspired by the exhibit featuring artist Yousef Karsh and decided it would be fun to extend their learning by recreating some of his works. The students re-created a selection of his photos then wrote about how body language and facial expression tell a story (and how it might not always be the real story behind the picture). Through this project the students made connections to people in the world, artists, the art of photography and the mystery of how we tell a story just in how we present ourselves. Lori Whillier and Student Teacher Kelsey LeBlanc, Kim Yamashita and Student Teacher Amanda Morie were all involved in this dynamic project.
