Good Things Are Happening
ÉCOLE RICHARD SECORD STUDENTS ENGAGE IN CITY'S FIRST LONG-TERM PEOPLE PLAN

On Wednesday, April 7, at 10 a.m., the Grade 6 Cogito class at École Richard Secord School will have a unique opportunity to provide feedback on The Way We Live: Edmonton's People Plan. The class was invited to City Hall after teacher Barb Davis and her students participated in the Front Room Forum in November regarding Edmonton's quality of life and they were the only class in Edmonton to do so. The class offered feedback on what would help make Edmonton one of Canada's most livable cities.

The City's draft plan will be reviewed at public open houses on April 6 and 7 at City Hall. City of Edmonton, Community Services has arranged to have a local artist on hand during the open houses to produce a mural, illustrating suggestions residents have to improve Edmonton's quality of life. The École Richard Secord School students will meet with the artist and have a chance to offer feedback regarding the mural, following a tour of City Hall and a meeting with Councilor Don Iveson.

The Way We Live: Edmonton's People Plan's goal is to present an integrated vision of the people services need to advance the City's goal of improving Edmonton's livability. The draft plan is the result of extensive consultation with Edmontonians and reflects Edmontonians' desire to connect to each other and to live in a safe, caring, attractive and sustainable city. The City of Edmonton's first people plan can be reviewed at www.edmonton.ca/TheWayWeLive.

The Cogito Alternative program, available at 10 district schools, is an academic program based on whole-group, teacher-directed instruction in a structured setting. It provides a knowledge-based, enriched curriculum, with an emphasis on phonics, spelling, grammar, and computational and problem-solving skills.
