Good Things Are Happening
WESTBROOK SCHOOL DOES DOUBLE DUTY BY SHOWING OLYMPIC SPIRIT AND HELPING HAITI DURING WINTER WALK DAY

On Wednesday, February 10 at 12:30 p.m., Westbrook School students will participate in Winter Walk Day and show their Olympic Spirit by wearing red and white. Marjorie O'Connor and the Olympic Torch will lead the lunch hour walk. O'Connor, one of 50 Edmontonians who carried the Olympic Torch on January 13, is known as Edmonton's 'fitness guru' for her spirit, passion for health, wellness and exercise and her outstanding commitment to making Edmonton full of more fitter, fabulous folks!

Winter Walk Day also continues Westbrook School's support towards the humanitarian relief efforts in Haiti. All Westbrook students and their families had an opportunity to paint the town red and white and support Haiti by purchasing a pair of red and white Olympic mittens for $12. A portion of the funds from the purchase of the mittens will go towards the Canadian Red Cross relief efforts in Haiti.

Media are welcome to accompany the school on the walk and there will be plenty of photo opportunities.

Winter Walk Day is an annual event encouraging Albertans to walk for a minimum of 15 minutes either indoors or outdoors. Last year nearly 73,000 Albertans walked a combined total of 2 million minutes. Participants are encouraged to visit www.shapeab.com to register and be counted among those Albertans taking part in Winter Walk Day.
