Good Things Are Happening
PARKDALE SCHOOL STUDENTS PERFORM AT CITY HALL

On Tuesday, January 26 at 10:20 a.m. students from Parkdale School will be performing a short play at City Hall, to help celebrate Family Literacy Day.

The Grade 3-4 class were invited by the Mennonite Centre for Newcomers, LINC program (Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada) to participate in World of Story 2010. They will enact a story and sing a folk song, along with the LINC program choir. The story, The Treasure in the Orchard, is a folktale from Afghanistan about a father who owns a pomegranate orchard and his seven lazy sons who are excited about inheriting a treasure, only to find out that it might not be the treasure they were hoping for. The Treasure in the Orchard is a story about the rewards of hard work.

Family Literacy Day takes place every year on January 27. ABC CANADA Literacy Foundation and Honda Canada created the day in 1999 to encourage families to read and learn together. Thousands of Canadians take part in Family Literacy Day events and activities at schools, libraries and literacy organizations.
