Good Things Are Happening
MILLWOODS CHRISTIAN SCHOOL LAUNCHES HOPE FOR HAITI

On January 21, Millwoods Christian School will launch their two week Hope for Haiti campaign. Students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 will be asked to collect change from their family and friends via Hope for Haiti boxes donated by Instabox.

This venture is in partnership with the DREAM Project (www.dominicandream.org), an education-focused charitable organization Millwoods Christian School had partnered with during a recent service trip to the Dominican Republic. While in the Dominican Republic, 14 members of the senior boys basketball team had the opportunity to volunteer in Haitian refugee villages. The recent events in Haiti have made an impact on the team and the entire school community.

Curriculum Co-ordinator Jacqueline Vandermeer says, "We are pleased to partner with the DREAM Project as it is well established in the Dominican and has access to governmental and military services that will assist them in getting resources to the people devastated by the earthquake in Haiti."

The Hope for Haiti initiative will temporarily replace fundraising for the school's international service trip program, which has raised almost 60 per cent of its $175 000 goal. School staff believe that this is an opportunity to shine a spotlight on a powerful message, which speaks to the significance of making personal sacrifices to meet the needs of others. The school strives to build a global perspective for its students by providing them with opportunities to respond when help is needed.
