Good Things Are Happening
CORONATION SCHOOL GAINS WORLD IB ACCREDITATION

Staff, students and parents at Coronation School returned to school after the holiday break to some incredible news - the school had received accreditation as an International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP) School. Coronation School is only one of two schools in Edmonton Public Schools' district that offers an accredited IB Primary Years Programme.

The IB accreditation from the International Baccalaureate Organization was the culmination of more than three years of commitment by the staff at the school. Staff members have worked hard to enhance their teaching skills through countless hours of training and professional development, much of it outside the classroom.

"Well done, Coronation School! This is a significant achievement," says Sue Huff, the Ward Trustee, "Receiving IB accreditation is a lengthy and involved process, requiring a great deal of effort on the part of the staff and principal. As well, the Coronation parents have played an important role with their enthusiastic support of the program. I offer my congratulations to all involved!"

The IB Primary Years Programme is for students from Kindergarten to Grade 6. It focuses on the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both in the classroom and the outside world. It is designed to encourage students to become energetic and compassionate learners, and to be active participants in a lifelong journey of learning.

Located in the neighbourhood of North Glenora, Coronation School has been part of Edmonton Public Schools for more than half a century. Along with its IB PYP Programme it also offers IB Middle Years Program for Grade 6 plus French as a Second Language in all grades including Kindergarten.

Everyone is welcome to find out more by attending the school's Open House on March 2, 2010 at 6:30 p.m.
