Good Things Are Happening
LIVE FROM COPENHAGEN: A GLOBAL PERSPECTIVE ON CLIMATE CHANGE

On Wednesday, December 16 from 9 to 11 a.m., Queen Elizabeth School (9425 - 132 Avenue) will host an international conference on climate change involving schools from eleven different nations. It is the largest virtual networking of youth for environmental change in the world.

TakingITGlobal and The Centre for Global Education have united to bring the world's youth face-to-face with global environmental leaders LIVE from Copenhagen during the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP15).

This two-hour virtual event will take place via live video-conference through the Global Interactive Student Portal and will see participation from schools from Denmark, Canada, Alaska, the United Kingdom, Netherlands, the United States, Indonesia, Mexico, France, Jordan and the most southern tip of Brazil.

Some of the global activities and questions include:

  • Addressing local contributors (Edmonton has been asked to address the oil sands by their partner countries around the world).
  • Comparing the impacts of climate change in their local/national areas.
  • Making a two minute speech for the closing ceremonies of the Copenhagen Conference.
  • Making personal changes to reduce their ecological footprint.

Participating schools came together through the Global Interactive Student Portal two weeks ago and completed at least five classes in preparation for this culminating event.

Media are invited to attend the international conference.
