Good Things Are Happening
CREE CULTURE CAMP - BEGIN THE JOURNEY WITH US

On Friday, September 25 and Saturday, September 26 students and their families will take part in an overnight Cree Culture Camp taking place in the field at Abbott School (12045 - 34 Street). The Cree Culture Camp is a fun opportunity for students and their families to understand, recognize and learn about the Cree culture as it is taught in traditional ways.

The camp will begin with the teaching of tipi building at 4 p.m. on Friday and end with a round dance at 11 a.m. on Saturday. Customary activities will also be included such as: fire teachings, storytelling, traditional family games, water ceremony, learning to smoke fish and prepare other traditional foods, as well as the chance to meet and spend time with community Elders.

The Cree language will be integrated through hands-on experiences through out the two days. The focus is on an inclusive term in Cree-TAWOW-meaning "there is room in the tipi," says Mary Cardinal Collins, a Cree Elder who works with the unit in the area of Cree language.

Join us as we spend the night in traditional tipis under the big Alberta sky!
