ICON OF THE COLD WAR TAKES CENTRE STAGE IN WORLD RENOWNED PHOTO EXHIBITION

Edmonton Public Schools is proud to host the international photo exhibition, Icons of the Wall: A Photographic Search for Traces in Today's Berlin in the Atrium of the Centre for Education, from April 14 to 17. This unique collection of photos commemorates the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall and documents the search for visible and invisible remnants of the Wall using cameras and acoustic recording devices.

The exhibition is presented by the Goethe Institut in co-operation with the District's Institute for Innovation in Second Language Education (IISLE). It will be on display for the public and district staff members before moving to the language institute, located at Woodcroft School (13750 Woodcroft Avenue), from April 20 to May 2. At this second location, students will be able to visit the exhibit and engage in interactive educational activities. Designed and implemented by students of the University of Paderborn, Germany, the exhibition originated with their efforts to uncover mental traces of a possible "Wall in the Mind," and to find forgotten wall remnants, deserted watchtowers or still visible border strips.

This is the second German cultural event to be held this year under the partnership agreement among Edmonton Public Schools, the Goethe Institut and the Central Agency for German Schools Abroad (ZfA).
