Good Things Are Happening
PREPARING STUDENTS FOR THEIR FUTURES

Edmonton Public Schools is pleased to introduce its new Skill Centre on Thursday, March 19, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The Skill Centre is located in Amiskwaciy Academy at 101 Airport Road.

The Skill Centre is a partnership between Edmonton Public Schools and NAIT, with NAIT assisting in the development of the courses and resources. The objective of the Skill Centre is to allow high school students to access valuable resources and gain real-world experience with hands-on courses. Students can not only learn about a career, but can practice and experience the career to make an informed decision about their future.

The courses being offered at the Skill Centre are Aviation Maintenance Orientation; Culinary Arts; Health Care Professional; and Manufacturing and Materials. Not only are the tools and equipment in the Centre unique, but the instructors have the credentials and experience in the industries they represent. The Centre even includes a replica of a Mong biplane.

The programs at the Skill Centre provide students with high school courses and recognition of this learning at post-secondary institutions or within the career field.

All four program areas of the Skill Centre will be featured at the Open House. The centre will operate as a pilot project until the end of June and begin full time programming for students in September 2009.
