EDMONTON PUBLIC SCHOOLS TO RECOGNIZE TOP STUDENTS

The Edmonton Public Schools' Board of Trustees will recognize 89 outstanding students at its annual Awards Night celebration tonight at 7:00 p.m. in Eva O. Howard Theatre, Victoria School of Performing and Visual Arts. The District will honour Grades 10, 11 and 12 students for their academic, athletic and artistic achievements, entrepreneurial skills, and demonstrations of leadership and citizenship during the 2007-2008 school year.

Jane Shores, a gifted student from Victoria School of Performing and Visual Arts, is receiving the Grade 12 Highest Honours Standing award. Jane achieved marks of 100 per cent in Physics 30 and Social Studies 30; 99 per cent in Mathematics 31; 98 per cent in Pure Math 30; and 98 per cent in English 30-1. She maintained an Honours with Distinction standing for all three years of high school as a full International Baccalaureate diploma candidate. She is currently attending Queen's University in Kingston where she is studying general sciences, with the intention of entering a professional program in the health sciences field.

Extraordinary District students will also be recognized tonight in a variety of categories,including international languages, physical education, fine arts, and career and technology studies.
