Good Things Are Happening
DONNAN SCHOOL WELCOMES OLYMPIC HOPEFUL MEGAN METCALFE

On Friday, June 13 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., students at Donnan School will have the opportunity to meet with their adopted Olympic athlete Megan Metcalfe. Throughout the school year students in Grades 3 and 5 have communicated with Metcalfe via postcards and emails. Metcalfe is a middle distance runner from Edmonton who hopes to represent Canada at the 2008 summer Olympics in Beijing.

As a District site for the Sports Alternative Program, Donnan School believes in supporting athletes in their pursuits. The Adopt An Athlete program is supported by the Canadian Olympic Committee and matches participating schools with Canadian athletes. The school based program teaches students the value of community contribution by working together to raise funds for athletes with Olympic aspirations. In return, the adopted athletes inspire students to excel in any area of their lives through school visits and communication.

The following is schedule of events:

11 - 11:30 a.m. Metcalfe arrives and meets with Grade 3 class.
11:30 a.m.- 12 p.m. School assembly.
12 - 12:20 p.m. Metcalfe meets with Grade 5 class.
12:20 - 1 p.m. Lunch with school staff.
