Good Things Are Happening
STUDENTS LEARN ABOUT ENERGY ALTERNATIVES

On Friday, March 7, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon, Riverdale School is hosting an Energy Conference. In addition to their own students attending, the school has invited two student delegates from five other schools to take part in the conference to learn about a variety of alternative forms of energy. The five other schools involved are Montrose, Homesteader, Beacon Heights, John A McDougall, and Michael A. Kostek.

The students will attend sessions to learn information on how a bicycle and its recycled parts can create electricity; how much energy does the typical family use in their home and how that can be reduced; how energy is currently made in Alberta and why that is a concern; and how solar power can benefit us today and in the future.

The sessions will be led by Gordon Howell, an Edmonton engineer who has focused his career on alternate energy sources; Carbon Busters, a company focused on reducing the ecological and carbon footprint through self-funding energy efficiency; and Pedal Power, which develops and promotes the use of pedal powered technology.
