Good Things Are Happening
OLD SCONA STUDENT PART OF AWARD-WINNING UNIVERSITY OF ALBERTA TEAM

Stephen Portillo, a Grade 12 student at Old Scona Academic High School, was part of a University of Alberta team of computing science students that won a major prize at the Supercomputing 2007 conference in Reno, Nevada. The U of A team was the only Canadian team in the Cluster Challenge. Supercomputing 2007 is the premier international conference on high-performance computing, networking, storage and analysis.

Stephen was asked to join the team after impressing the University of Alberta's Computing Science department during an internship. In addition to his talent with computers, Stephen is the Vice President of Old Scona's student council and was the top scoring high school student on the first Iverson Computing Science Exam in June 2007.
