BOARD RECOMMENDS FIVE SCHOOLS FOR MODERNIZATION

At the regular public Board meeting on Tuesday, September 11, the Board of Trustees voted to allocate $35 million to address the district's top five priorities for modernization projects as outlined in the Three-Year Capital Plan, 2008-2011.

The projects are:

  • Ellerslie North Campus, Urban Infrastructure
  • Strathcona High School, Essential Upgrade
  • Eastglen High School, Essential Upgrade
  • Prince Charles School, General Upgrade
  • Forest Heights School, General Upgrade, Phase One

The modernization list will now be sent to the Education Minister.

Based on the current construction market and existing number of district projects underway, it is estimated these modernizations could be completed by September 2011, with the exception of Ellerslie North Campus which should be completed in 2008.

The funding was made available by the province, which earlier announced $100 million in modernization funding to be shared among the four metro boards.
